China to Build Joint Research Centre with Pakistan

China is setting up a China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences, a multi-disciplinary hub to improve resilience to natural hazards, according to the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The proposed Centre will be capable to improve knowledge of natural hazard physical processes, predict natural hazards, and develop an effective methodology for mitigation of disaster risks.

China Releases Remote Sensing Data on 'Belt and Road' Environment Protection

China released a remote sensing report on Monday, detailing ecological information related to land cover, vegetation, agricultural conditions and marine environment on a global scale. The International Symposium on Earth Observation for the Maritime Silk Road (EMSR) was convened in Sanya, a coastal city in southernmost China, on November 25-27. The three-day event wrapped up with the adoption of the Sanya Declaration and the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the joint construction of an Earth observation network. The symposium marks the start of substantial cooperation on using Earth observation technologies especially for countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Eco-science Centers to Bind Ties

China is expanding its eco-environment technology presence in Central Asia with two research centers to be established next year. The two centers will be created in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to facilitate cooperation with scientists from Central Asia, according to Chen Xi, director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
