Chinese scientists have found a cheaper way to produce hydrogen energy by developing a new catalyst. The catalyst was developed by scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China, who used an alloy to improve the activity and stability of a kind of precious metal catalyst.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has provided over 1.8 billion yuan (about 268 million U.S. dollars) for Belt and Road (B&R) science and technology projects since the B&R Initiative was proposed in 2013, said CAS President Bai Chunli on Friday.

The lab intends to share resources, technology, talent and projects. The National Center for Drug Screening and Pudong Hospital affiliated to Fudan University are among the first batch to join the lab.

A total of 2,500 young scientists from Belt and Road countries and regions will come to China for short-term scientific research. A sodium-ion battery power storage plant has been put into operation in east China's Jiangsu Province, the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said Tuesday.
