Science facilities on China's planned Tiangong space station could support hundreds of space research projects after it's completed in 2022. Sixteen experiment racks will be installed in the core module and two lab capsules of the space station, and an extravehicular experiment platform will be built.

A large community of an endangered plant species has been discovered in Houhe National Nature Reserve in Central China's Hubei Province, according to the reserve. The plant, Changiostyrax dolichocarpa, was spotted during a survey conducted by a researching team of Wuhan Botanical Garden (WBG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with staff in the reserve.

An asteroid has been named after leading Chinese astrophysicist Zhou Youyuan, with approval from the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the China Science Daily reported Monday. Asteroid Zhouyouyuan, coded 120730, was discovered in 1997 by astronomers with the Beijing Schmidt CCD Asteroid Program at the Xinglong observatory in north China, according to an IAU communique.

A sodium-ion battery power storage plant has been put into operation in east China's Jiangsu Province, the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said Tuesday. The plant, co-developed by the institute and tech firm HiNa Battery, has a storage capacity of 100 KWh. It has successfully delivered electricity to a research center affiliated to the institute.

China has developed a comprehensive and reliable detection system of water-related parameters to meet its urgent demand for addressing extreme weather alert as well as weather forecast in both short and long range. The project, officially called "Industrialization and Commercialization of Equipment on Water-related Meteorological Parameters Measurement," is led by Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Hefei Institutes of Physical Science.
