May 11, 2023

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has launched an Open Innovation initiative to create a better ecosystem for international collaboration, according to the Kick-Off Meeting of Pilot Program for Open Innovation (PPOI) held on May 6th.

The first pilot program will be based in the city of Hefei, Anhui Province, with Nuclear Fusion Energy Research as its focus.

CAS will select up to five typical research institutes to act as pilot institutes throughout China's national 14th Five-Year Plan period, and guide them to develop a toolkit of policies and resources to foster a friendlier, more inclusive and dynamic ecosystem for international collaboration, said ZHANG Yaping, Vice President of CAS.

In line with the "One Institute, One Policy" principle, PPOI seek to promote every pilot institute to integrate with broader international cooperation networks with formation of policies and resources to pursue excellence in science and technology.

The first pilot institute is expected to serve as a flagship platform for future international exchange and cooperation between CAS and worldwide science community.
