Five CAS Researchers Named Nature's "Science Stars of China"

Jun 21, 2016

Ten Chinese researchers were named “Science Stars of China” by British interdisciplinary scientific journal Nature for their “big impact” in China from ancient DNA to neutrinos and neuroscience; half of them are from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Nature introduced these top researchers in its June 21st issue for their “raising their country’s standing in science”.

The five scientists from CAS are:

WU Ji, director-general of China’s National Space Science Center (NSSC) and also a top space-science researcher aiming high with bold research missions;

GAO Caixia, researcher of the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, and a gene-editing specialist seeking to make her mark by improving key agricultural plants with CRISPR-Cas9;

WANG Yifang, director of the Institute of High Energy Physics and a leading high-energy physicist hopes to smash records with a giant collider;

FU Qiaomei, researcher of Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, and a geneticist uses ancient human remains to rewrite Asia’s prehistory;

LU Chaoyang, a “quantum wizard” from the Science and Technology University of China, and a young physicist works wonders with photons.
