China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish and most sensitive radio telescope, opened global applications for free observation projects on Saturday. The telescope, located in a naturally deep and round karst depression in southwest China's Guizhou Province, has observed celestial phenomena for no less than 5,000 hours per year since it started operation in January 2020.

The process involves pump lasers at 258 and 1553 nm, derived from a Yb-hybrid laser and an Er-doped fiber laser, respectively. This setup, culminating in a 2mm×2mm×30mm Yb:YAG bulk crystal for power scaling, demonstrates impressive results.
