The China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station successfully received on March 5 the first data transmitted from the newly launched land observation satellite L-SAR 01B, according to the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. A total of 16.55 GB data was received, recorded, transmitted in the receiving task that lasted two minutes and 35 seconds, said AIR.

Professor XU Yigang, a geochemist from the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry (GIG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was elected a Geochemistry Fellow, according to an announcement by the Geochemical Society (GS) and the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) on February 14. XU is recognized for his outstanding contributions to international geochemistry including seminal work on the relationship between mantle plumes and the Emeishan flood basalt, the destruction of the North China Craton and the origins of the Cenozoic basalt in China.

On January 25, the "Volunteer Rapid Disaster Monitoring and Mapping (Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai Volcanic Eruption)", which was jointly developed by the Aerospace Information Research Institute and New Zealand Tonkin + Taylor, was recommended to Tonga government through the academic channel. The platform has been handed over the Tonga government departments for use on the same day, according to Tongan Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni in a thank-you email.

The conservation tillage "Lishu Model", a complete set of technical solutions for controlling black soil degradation and improving soil functions in northeast China, won the 2021 Science and Technology Promotion & Development Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and was listed in the 2021 Science and Technology Innovation Highlights of CAS. China's Long March-4C carrier rocket for Ziyuan1-02C satellite was launched on Dec.26, with three sets of metallic damping components for orbit HD optical imaging satellite on board. The components will help to deal with the strong-vibratory shock damage and micro-vibratory interference in the control moment gyro (CMG) of high-definition satellite during rocket launch and in-orbit operation.
