A Chinese institute has developed a climate system model FGOALS-g3 and produced a super-large ensemble simulation dataset with 110 members, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Each member of the dataset covers coupling simulations of oceans, atmosphere, sea ice, and land surface in a period from 1850 to 2099.

China will establish a "gene bank" of ancient ceramics in east China's Jiangxi Province, based on data from nearly 20 million pieces of ceramics specimens accumulated in some 40 years, authorities announced Saturday. Over a hundred pieces of "gene" information can be traced through just a piece of ancient ceramic fragment, offering details about the body, glaze, pigment, to name a few, said Weng Yanjun, president of the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Institute in the city of Jingdezhen, a world-famous "porcelain capital."

China has released a new comprehensive geologic map of the moon to a scale of 1:2,500,000, the most detailed to date. Rapid climate warming has caused water imbalances in the Third Pole region, leading to greater water demand in densely populated downstream countries, according to a new study. The rise in temperatures with changes in the westerlies and the Indian monsoon led to glacier retreat and more precipitation in the region's northern part and less in the southern. China's scientific research ship Exploration 2 returned to port on Monday, after completing a sea test of a deep-sea in-situ laboratory in the South China Sea. The voyage was organized by Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and is aimed at verifying the underwater performance and operation reliability of the deep-sea in-situ scientific experiment station designed by CAS.
