On Tuesday, China announced its first-ever medium- and long-term plans for space science development. A variety of key research areas have been listed. Ding Chibiao, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said the country aims to become a global leader in certain areas by 2050.
China unveiled a national mid and long-term development program for space science on Tuesday, which will guide the country's planning of space science missions and space research from 2024 to 2050. The program, the first of its kind at the national level, was jointly released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).
Our galaxy has hundreds of billions of stars, many with solar-like planetary systems, and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe. So in the scientific world it is generally regarded as reasonable to infer that Earth-like planets may be common, and that the universe may teem with life. "I think primitive life is likely to be abundant, but intelligent life may be rarer," says Mao, also director of the Galaxy and Cosmology Division of the National Astronomical Observatories of China at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
