Now Is High Time for Kitefruits to Bloom in Southwest China's Yunnan

Mar 02, 2020

Kitefruits in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanic Garden in southwest China's Yunnan Province have been blooming recently.

Hiptage candicans var. harmandiana

These plants are unique to tropical and subtropical areas of Asia. Of the 30 species of the kitefruit genus, 12 can be found in China.

Hiptage lucida

Years of evolution have equipped the plants with special pollination characteristics such as mirror-image flowers and heteranthery, in which a single flower has different types of stamens, to attract more insects.
