A Chinese research group has identified a gene variant that plays a key role in the development of Alzheimer's disease in Han Chinese, the largest ethnic group in China. According to researchers, the variant is most likely Chinese-specific after they analyzed genome sequencing data of 812 individuals of European patients.
The total area of China's Windbreak and Sand-Fixation Forests has increased by 154% after 40 years of construction of the Three-North Shelterbelt Program (TNSP). China's desertification area has greatly declined since 2000 and TNSP contributes to the reduction of desertification by around 15 percent.
Chinese scientists have said they have come up with a more efficient luminescent solar concentrator (LSC), which can be made into "solar windows" that turn sunlight into electricity. Researchers at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics said they designed a "quantum-cutting" approach to double the efficiency of LSC devices.
