US secretary of treasury speaks at CAS

The visiting US Secretary of Treasury Henry M. Paulson, Jr. delivered a speech entitled Meeting the Challenge: A Partnership on Energy and the Environment on 3 April at the CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences in Beijing. Presided over by CAS Vice President JIANG Mianheng, the talk was attended by an audience of more than 300 scholars.



    On 3 April, the visiting US Secretary of Treasury Henry M. Paulson, Jr. came to CAS and delivered a speech entitled Meeting the Challenge: A Partnership on Energy and the Environment at the CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences in Beijing.

    Presided over by CAS Vice President JIANG Mianheng, the talk was attended by an audience of more than 300 scholars, including participants of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency discussions on new technology for environmental challenges.

    In his speech, Mr. Paulson's addressed 10 different issues, ranging from benefits of the strategic economic dialogue, environmental challenges, energy challenges to US China cooperation.

    He said that both US and China share the challenge of achieving balanced economic growth along with energy security and environmental sustainability. Working out solutions to the problems will take resourcefulness, creativity, determination and a long-term commitment to achieve the results we seek. To address the problem, cooperation is required at the highest levels on climate change, energy security and efficiency, pollution abatement, and natural resource conservation.
