Social modernization, an important field of modernization, is a key component of the state modernization, says Prof. HE Chuanchi, director of the China Centre for Modernization Research (CCMR) under CAS. "There would be no latter without the former."
Prof. He made the remarks at a seminar on the newly released China Modernization Report 2006, an annual book series on modernization research conducted by CCMR. Under the theme of studies on social modernization, this year's publication deals with the relationship between social modernization and different stages of social progress and the principles and methodology for social modernization studies using typology and quantitative assessment.
Social modernization is the main theme for human progress over the past 300 years, notes Prof. He. "It represents the major direction of civilization development, leading to the profound structural transformation in human society and social life as well as the fundamental changes in the patterns of world development."
