Chinese delegation attends COSPAR scientific assembly

An 81-strong delegation from China's mainland headed by CAS Vice President Jiang Mianheng attended the 35th Scientific Assembly of Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), which was held from 18 to 25 in Paris, France.

Established by the International Council for Science in 1958, COSPAR serves as a forum for the presentation of the latest scientific results, for the exchange of knowledge and also for the discussion of space research problems. The topics of this assembly covered major achievements in such fields as space-earth sciences, studies of planets and the solar system, space physics, space astronomy, micro-gravity science, space life sciences, and fundamental physics in space

Prof. Jiang Mianheng was invited to deliver a speech at the plenary session of the conference. He told the participants that China would further its cooperation with the international community to raise its research level so as to make even more remarkable contributions to the humanity. He also stressed the importance of space science and technology, peaceful use of outer space and international cooperation in the field.

It was announced at the meeting that the 36th scientific assembly of COSPAR would be held in July 2006 in Beijing.
