Shanghai International Forum on Advanced Bioceramics held in SICCAS

Nov 04, 2014

The Shanghai International Forum on Advanced Bioceramics was successfully held in Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SICCAS) on October 28, 2014. More than 30 scientists and experts from Switzerland, France, Japan, Australia, America, Indonesia, and China attended the forum.

The theme of this year's forum is “Perspective and future trends of bioceramic research”. The forum was chaired by Prof. CHANG Jiang from SICCAS. Prof. SONG Lixin, the director of SICCAS, gave the opening address. He welcomed all the participants and hoped this forum could promote the exchanges and collaborations among international researchers on basic and applied researches on bioceramics.

During the forum, some famous experts gave lectures on bioceramics. Prof. Kunio Ishikawa from Japan reviewed the history of traditional bioceramics, and pointed out that innovative ceramics which are designed based on traditional bioceramics through accurately controlling the composition and pore structure would have great potential in the future. Prof. William Lu from Chinese Taiwan gave some clinical examples about bioceramics in the application of osteoporotic bone fracture treatment and complications and stated that bioceramics would play an important role in the therapy of osteoporotic fracture in the future.

Shanghai International Forum on Advanced Materials (SIFAM) is a series of professional academic forum, hosted by SICCAS annually. It has been held 5 times with different themes and this year's theme is advanced bioceramics. With the aim of providing a good platform to exchange global research states quo, SIFAM encourages the researchers to initiate and organize the small-scale international forums and invites world renowned experts in the field of advanced inorganic materials to widen the vision of the young researchers, stimulate their innovative ideas and push SICCAS’s international cooperation forward.
