IMP and GSI Signed MoU for Research Cooperation

Dec 19, 2011

Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences ((IMP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on December 13 to strengthen bilateral cooperation with GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) in Darmstadt Germany.

Professor XIAO Guoqing, the director of IMP and Prof. Horst Stöcker, the president of GSI signed the MOU representing the two institutes in Darmstadt Germany.

According to MOU, both parties agreed to boost further research and cooperation on nuclear physics, accelerator physics and technology, material science and nanotechnology, radio-biology, by developinging joint research projects, exchanging scientists and information on these fields, publishing the acquired results in journals.

GSI is a world-wide famous heavy ion research center and has achieved a series of major scientific and technological achievements in nuclear physics research and application, such as first synthesized six heavy elements (107-112), the international leading heavy-ion cancer therapy technology.

Over the years, IMP has a long-term relationship with GSI such research areas as nuclear theory, accelerator physics and technology, and material research. In recent years, along the deepening of bilateral exchange of scientists, the areas of cooperation have been expanded and the level of cooperation and exchange has been increased.
