The 55-year-old Glashütte Original astronomical clock was returned to the Qingdao Observatory of Purple Mountain Observatory under Chinese Academy of Sciences on Dec. 20, 2010 after it was sent to Germany for repairs a year ago. It has been installed in its original location and is back in operation.
A technical research program aimed at developing best hybrid rice variety for Indonesia jointly conducted by Indonesian and Chinese scientists was launched here on Wednesday with the effective research period set to due in 2013. Through such a program, Indonesia will send its agricultural scientists and officials to be trained in China.
A hotpot restaurant in China's northern Shandong province has unveiled its new staff - a team of robots. Automated waiters move between tables, offering trays of food and drinks. The project was set up by the Shandong Dalu Science and Technology Company, which designed and built the mechanical waiters from scratch.
China's Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) Tuesday renewed its offer to fund overseas professionals who contribute to technology innovation projects for the country. The MST published instructions on how to apply for the government-run "Thousand Talents" funding program, which was unveiled in late 2008 to attract leading overseas professionals to work in China.
China celebrated on Monday the success of its second lunar probe, Chang'e-2, highlighting the significance of the project in boosting the country's technological development. In a celebration rally in Beijing, President Hu Jintao hailed the project as another achievement in China's lunar exploration program and a result of its drive to build an innovation-oriented nation.
China successfully launched an orbiter into space from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan Province at 4:20 a.m. Beijing Time Saturday. It was the seventh orbiter that China has launched for its independent satellite navigation and positioning network, also known as Beidou, or Compass system.
