CAS researcher sits on the ICSU executive board
Prof. FU Congbin, a celebrated climatologist at the CAS Institute of Atmospheric Physics, was elected into the Executive Board of the International Council for Science (ICSU) at its 28th General Assembly held from Oct. 17 to 22 in Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Founded in 1931 to promote international scientific activity in the different branches of science and its application for the benefit of humanity, ICSU is one of the oldest non-governmental organizations in the world. Its Executive Board is responsible to the General Assembly of the organization. In addition to overseeing the operations of ICSU, the Board provides advice and direction on priorities to the Assembly taking into consideration the recommendations of the appropriate Committees. It also implements and communicates ICSU's policies and views between sessions of the Assembly. Apart from six officers, the Board consists of eight ordinary members.
Prof. Fu, a CAS member, is one of earliest Chinese scholars taking part in and pioneering the global change research. Under his leadership, the East Asian Regional Center for global change was inaugurated as a world-renowned hub on the subject. Now he serves as the director of the START Regional Center for Temperate East Asia in China.
