BRI Countries Work to Tackle Disasters

Scientists from China and other countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative will work together to enhance scientific and technological cooperation in disaster prevention and mitigation, according to a joint declaration.

Uzbekistan, China Agree to Create a Joint Medical Technopark

Within the framework of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to the People's Republic of China, Uzbekistan and PRC discussed the creation of a joint medical technology park for the synthesis of medicinal substances. The Minister of Innovation Development of Uzbekistan, academician Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, and the project head of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Jingshan Shen, signed a letter of intent.

BRI Prompts Closer Global Scientific Cooperation

In response to BRI countries'developmental obstacles, CAS launched the joint centers overseas to serve the needs of host countries and act as collaborative platforms to overcome key obstacles via scientific methods, expertise and tools.

Chinese Sciences Academy Provides 268 mln Dollars for BRI Projects

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has provided over 1.8 billion yuan (about 268 million U.S. dollars) for Belt and Road (B&R) science and technology projects since the B&R Initiative was proposed in 2013, said CAS President Bai Chunli on Friday.

Over 2,000 Belt and Road Scientists to Conduct Research in China

A total of 2,500 young scientists from Belt and Road countries and regions will come to China for short-term scientific research. Li Yin, deputy director-general of the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said he expected more cooperation between members under COMSATS and the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) in the near future.

KUN and TASH Open A Green Channel for International Specimens Exchanges under ANSO

The National Herbarium of Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences (TASH) had recently sent 421 copies of exchange specimens to Herbaria (KUN) of Kunming Institute of Botany, covering 44 families, 124 genera and 200 species. These historical collections were obtained mainly during the 1950-1960s, and all specimens were of high quality and preserved in good condition. The specimens are of great preservation value to KUN since most of them were collected from the Chatkal valley and the Fergana Region (nowadays in Uzbekistan), and very few specimens from both areas were deposited in KUN previously.

Biosecurity Strategy Needed for China's Belt and Road Initiative, Researchers Say

China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched five years ago, includes more than 120 countries, linked by six proposed land-based Economic Corridors between core cities and key ports along traditional international transport routes. But, as new evidence reported in the journal shows, the risk of introducing invasive species into new areas is substantial as it would threaten native species and biodiversity.

Big Earth Data Launched at Digital Belt and Road conference

A Digital Belt and Road big Earth data platform was launched at the on-going 3rd Conference of Digital Belt and Road held in Tengchong, Southwest China's Yunnan Province. As an A-class strategic high-tech research project initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2016, the cloud service platform aims to establish an open international center for big Earth data.

Fengyun Satellites Handed over to Meteorological Authority

Two Fengyun satellites were officially turned over to China's top meteorological authority on Friday, which will help weather forecasting and the prevention of natural disasters for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The two meteorological satellites are Fengyun-2H and Fengyun-3D, which were launched on June 5 this year and Nov 15, 2017, respectively.

SynBio Workshop Boosts International Technology Transfer

More than 200 delegates from universities, research institutes, hi-tech enterprises and Sci&Tech organizations from the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and countries along the "Belt and Road", attended the 2018 Qingdao International Technology Transfer Conference - Synthetic Biology Workshop, which focuses on the relationship between synthetic biotechnology and four major fields: resource and environment, energy and chemindustry, pharmaceutics and health, and method and technology.

TU in Governing Board

The Alliance of International Science Organisations in the Belt and Road Region has elected the Tribhuvan University as member of its governing board. A six-member delegation led by Vice-Chancellor of the TU, Prof Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya, had attended a three-day conference held in Beijing of China from November 3, where the Alliance was established.

ANSO-Environment and Green Development Session Held in Beijing

ANSO-Environment and Green Development was held on Nov.4 and Nov. 5, 2018. Over 156 scientists from 21 countries met in Beijing to discuss green development in the Belt and Road region. The session included 23 presentations and mainly focused on Water Tower of Asia under climate change and its impacts on Silk Road, ecosystem change in the coupled human-natural system over Tibetan Plateau and coping strategy, a green Silk Road, and from Third Pole to Three Poles Environment.

A Belt and Road international science organisations alliance launch in Beijing with the aim of tackling major scientific challenges such as climate change. The Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region, (ANSO), was initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). ANSO, which is non-profit and non-governmental, will include more than 40 national, regional and international scientific and research institutions.
