Dr. Dambaru Ballab Kattel's Decade in China

Dr. Dambaru Ballab Kattel is an associate professor at the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITPCAS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His work focuses on mountain climate system as well as climate change adaptation for local communities in the Third Pole region.

He obtained his Ph.D degree from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences as the first international student of ITPCAS.

Before that, Dr. Dambaru Ballab Kattel was a scientific officer at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology. He played a key role in the establishment of TPE center at Kathmandu, which later developed into the Kathmandu Center for Research and Education (KCRE), CAS-TU.

After graduation from University of CAS, Dr. Kattel worked as a post-doc in Germany and then a university faculty in Pakistan.

In 2016, with support from the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), he came back to ITPCAS to work for the international science program of Third Pole Environment (TPE).

The Third Pole Environment is an international science program initiated and supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences for the interdisciplinary study of the relationships among water, ice, air, ecology and humankind in the Third Pole region and beyond.

Just recently, Dr. Dambaru Ballab Kattel was invited to participate in the symposium held by Premier Li Keqiang for representatives of foreign experts working in China, before the Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year.
