Popular science day opens at CAS institute in Beijing

State leaders, including Chinese Vice President XI Jinping, are present at the activities held on 20 September at the CAS Institute of Botany to observe the 2008 National Science Popularization Day.

The week-long 2008 National Science Popularization Day started on 19 September. Its main venue in Beijing is located at the Botanical Garden of the CAS Institute of Botany.

On 20 September, State leaders, including Chinese Vice President XI Jinping, joined the visitors in conducting popular science experiments held at the CAS institute.

Under the theme of eco-environment protection, the event at the CAS institute involved some 50 activities for visitors, including a virtual herbarium, an autumn flower show, a popular science caravan, various popular science experiments, and exhibitions on such topics as environmental protection, energy-saving expertise, disaster reduction and global warming.

CAS institutes across the country held various activities to mark the event, ranging from public lectures, popular science films to photo galleries and scientific experiment demonstrations.
