To mark the week-long National Science Popularization Day from 19 to 26 September, a lecture meeting and discussion entitled "water-trees-gardens" was held in Beijing.
As a dialog on urban eco-environment between scientists and the general public, the event was jointly organized by the National Science Library at CAS, the CAS Center for Eco-environmental Research and the CAS Institute of Botany.
At the meeting, CAS scientists made a vivid exposition on topics like the effect of urbanization on the eco-environment, changes brought about by the 2008 Olympic Games on Beijing, the possible future trends in the research of urban ecology, and planning for sustainable development of urban eco-environment.
During its question and answer sessions, the speakers and the audience held discussions on various issues in the fields. Serving as a new platform for popular science, the dialogue aroused close interactions between research professionals and the public.
On the same day, an exhibition and a book show on eco-environment protection were opened at Library.
