A training workshop on desertification control kicked off on 1 September in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province. It was attended by more than 20 scholars from Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Mongolia and other developing countries.
The workshop is organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted jointly by the International Centre for Education and Research on Desertification Control, CAS Bureau of International Cooperation and CAS Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI).
The one-month course will be focused on China's experience in combating desertification and information on the environmental evolution, development and utilization of water resources and restoration and reconstruction of eco-environment in arid areas. Trainees will also meet in CAREERI to visit Shapotou Desert Experimental Research Station and Linze Inland River Basin Comprehensive Research Station.
