CAS Members to Help in Development of Shanghai Pudong New Area

Sep 16, 2002

Prof. Shen Baog en, Vice Secretary-General of CAS, speaks at the opening ceremony of the center.

From now on, members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will get organized to contribute what they can to the development of Shanghai's Pudong New Area (PNA), which is expected to become a financial center in Asia.

The Shanghai Pudong Center for Activities of CAS Members was inaugurated on September 12, 2002, with support of the PNA People's Government and the General Office of CAS Academic Divisions. The center has the task of organizing CAS members to offer proposals and suggestions to the PNA in its planning for high-tech development, for work to remove key technological bottlenecks, and for industrial investment. Under the center's auspices, CAS members will launch a range of academic activities in the PNA, including reports on research in frontier fields of science to local officials and experts and talks targeted at the general public to spread scientific knowledge. The center will assist CAS members to put their research results to industrial use in the PNA. (BCAS)
