Born in Guangdong Province in 1916, Shen was one of the founders of Chinese contemporary chemistry and a senior academic in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China News Service reported.
Professor Shen held several national patents and two state intellectual property rights; nickel-metal hydride battery and new manufacturing process of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet alloy.
After Shen dedicated the IPR to the nation, the production of nickel-metal hydride batteries in Tianjin has accounted for over 20 percent of the world's total. The industrialisation of the Nd-Fe-B alloy manufacturing technology is also under way.
Shen graduated from the National Southwestern Associated University, a merger of China's major universities during the China-Japan war period in the 1930s to 1940s. He taught chemistry in Nankai University for most of his lifetime. (gbTimes)
