CAS and DOE Strengthen Cooperation in Nuclear Energy Sciences and Technology

May 09, 2016

Recently, CAS-DOE (U.S Department of Energy) Nuclear Energy Sciences and Technology 3rd Executive Committee Meeting was held in Shanghai. The two parties will strengthen the cooperation by several working groups focusing on Molten Salt Coolant Systems, Fuel Resources and Nuclear Hybrid Energy Systems.

Based on the peaceful use of nuclear technology, the signing of CAS-DOE Nuclear Energy MOU in 2011 opened the gate to the cooperation on molten salt technology. The CAS institutes, DOE Labs and U.S universities carried out various levels of effective and productive cooperation. During this meeting, scientists from three working groups presented recent progress of existing collaboration and explored opportunities for more joint efforts in research and development.

The cooperation has already promoted technology development significantly, and achievements have been recognized in the recent two rounds of the China-U.S Strategic Economic Dialogue.

"We have established the foundation for cooperation. I believe that we will continue the effective cooperation and achieve more success,” said XIANGLI Bin, Vice President of CAS.

JIANG Mianheng, former Vice President of CAS and currently President of Shanghai Tech University said that he hope the strong support and persistent pursuit of scientists of both sides, the well-established collaboration will be more successful.

John Kotek, Assistant Secretary of Office of Nuclear Energy, DOE highly valued the role of the Executive Committee Meeting as the platform for scientists to exchange their views, to evaluate program progress, to facilitate join efforts and to enhance mutual understanding.
