China Donates Water Quality Analyzer to Sri Lanka for Kidney Disease Study

A delegation of Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS) has donated a set of Water Quality Analyzers to Sri Lanka to aid the studies on the Chronic Kidney Disease (CHD) that is affecting the island nation's farming population.

The equipment worth Rs. 22 million were donated during a meeting of the Chinese delegation with the Sri Lankan officials in Colombo recently.

The Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS) delegation led by Qiu Huasheng, Deputy Director General of CAS Bureau of International Cooperation held an official meeting with Secretary of the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply R.M.U.D. Basnayake and Chairman of National Water Supply and Drainage Board K.A. Ansar.

The two sides exchanged views on the planning, development and remaining issues regarding the cooperation on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) study and analysis. During the meeting, CAS donated a set of Water Quality Analyzer worth Rs. 22 million to the Sri Lankan side for the purpose of CKD study and analysis, the Government Information Department said.

During the past three years, CAS has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Water Supply of Sri Lanka, and has done field research in Kandy, Anuradhapura and Jaffna, to determine the effect of water quality on CKD in different regions. (Colombo Page)
