Research Vessel Embarks on China's 39th Ocean Expedition

Research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No. 1) departs from Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, Dec. 12, 2015. The Chinese research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No. 1) sailed for a 205-day exploration of the Indian Ocean, the 39th times of this kind. The vessel will explore 19 polymetallic sulfide exploration contract blocks covering 1,900 square kilometers in the Indian Ocean. (Xinhua/Zhang Xudong)  

The Chinese research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No. 1) departed from the city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province on Saturday, kicking off the country's 39th oceanic expedition mission.

The 205-day, 20,000-nautical-mile voyage will take the vessel to the Indian Ocean to conduct a series of oceanic surveys on polymetallic sulphide, bio-resources and the environment, said Li Huaiming, chief scientist of the 254-strong expedition team.

Researchers will carry out geological exploration in 19 blocks with an area of 1,900 square kilometers in southwestern Indian Ocean.

The vessel is scheduled return to Qingdao on July 8, 2016. (Xinhua)
