Plant Diversity Recruites Assistant English Editor

Job Description: Plant Diversity (formerly Plant Diversity and Resources) is an international botanical journal under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and sponsored by Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Botanical Society of China. The journal is interested in recruiting English editor able to work efficiently with authors for whom English is a second language, and edit papers from diverse fields of plant science. 

Responsibility:  

1)    Check for accuracy, consistency, clarity, grammar, spelling and sense in journal articles and assist in proof reading  

2)    Ensure that the language and style of submitted manuscripts meet international standards 

3)    Help authors to revise and improve their manuscripts face to face if necessary 

4)    Give a lecture on English writing for the staff of Kunming Institute of Botany once or twice a year 

5)    Provide editorial assistance in the preparation and editing of the English scientific paperwork and the journal website content  

6)    Provide advice and support on language-relayed matters concerning journal editorial policy and practice, as well as conferences, workshops, training courses, and other related activities organized by KIB 

Requirements: 

- Native English speaker 

- Degree in biology or ecology 

- Good translating and proofreading skills, preferably with editing experience and good knowledge of editorial policies, practices and research techniques 

- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in a text 

- Ability to work in a bicultural environment, respect to the local culture 

Terms and Conditions: 

1)    The initial appointment is for 6 months with the possibility for renewal 2-3 years 

2)    No age application limits 

3)    Salary negotiable, according to the experience and ability
