2023-07-20

From 2 to 16 July, the "Belt and Road Training Course of Coastal Ecological Aquaculture and Biotechnology" organised by the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research (YIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was held in Yantai, Shandong Province. A total of 22 trainees including university professors, researchers and technical staff from 13 countries including Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Cameroon attended the training. All participants had a Master's degree or higher.

The training format of this course included lectures, laboratory visits, marine ranch visits, company visits, etc. Twenty-eight experts from 17 associations, with the YIC as the main organiser, were invited to give oral presentations. The main topics included the technological development and international cooperation of aquaculture in China, the current status and trends of marine biotechnology, and the production of blue food.

Over the course of 15 days, the trainees not only gained in-depth professional knowledge, but also deepened their understanding of the scientific progress and industrial development of China's coastal zone.

Some trainees actively introduced their national technological progress and requirements in related fields through special presentations, enriching the training content and also providing topics for future international project applications. The trainees also gained a better understanding of CAS's international cooperation and talent exchange efforts, and expressed strong interest in pursuing Ph.D, postdoctoral and visiting scholar opportunities.

This training course has built a solid platform for promoting scientific and technological cooperation and talent introduction among Belt and Road countries in the post-epidemic era.
