On February 26, the second annual meeting of the "Academic Forum on High-Quality Development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)" was held in Beijing. The theme of the meeting is "10-Year Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative", with the aim of jointly reviewing the achievements of the 10-year construction and discussing ways and measures for high-quality development.

The opening ceremony was presided over by LIU Weidong, Secretary General of the Forum and Professor of the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. BAI Chunli, CHEN Yuan, GE Quansheng (Director of IGSNRR), OU Xiaoli (Former Director of the Social Affairs Department of the National Development and Reform Commission), YANG Yongfeng (Deputy Director of the Labor Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), and CHEN Sicang (General Manager of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation) delivered speeches congratulating the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Academic Forum.

CHEN Yuan pointed out in his video speech that on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the construction of the BRI, making a good summary and looking to the future is conducive to doing a better job in the next stage. It is hoped that under the guidance of the spirit of the report of the 20th Party National Congress and combined with construction cases, the participating experts will conduct in-depth theoretical research and summarize experiences, strengthen academic exchanges and contribute wisdom to promote the high-quality development of the BRI.

BAI Chunli stressed that the scientific and technological community plays a unique and increasingly important role in promoting the high-quality development of the BRI, especially in exploring new areas such as green, health, digital and innovation development. It is important to plan as a whole, coordinate resources and innovate mechanisms to promote the Belt and Road science and technology cooperation to a new level.

In the keynote report session, BAI Chunli, NING Jizhe, LIN Yifu, LU Dadao, YU Hongjun, WEI Jianguo (video address) and other experts delivered keynote speeches. In the discussion session, the participating experts discussed the theory and practice of construction and put forward suggestions on how to promote the high-quality development of the BRI.

The forum was jointly initiated in early 2022 by 16 research institutions and universities, think tanks and enterprises, including the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Silk Road Planning Research Center of the CPPCC National Committee, and the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO). The meeting is organized by the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-organized by the Greater Bay Area Science Forum.
