The 2017 CAS-TWAS Symposium on Green Chemistry and Technology for Sustainable Development (GCT2017) was held in the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, 2017. 

The symposium aimed to strengthen international cooperation in green technology. Government officials, enterprises and world-leading experts from China, India, Egypt, Germany, Malaysia, etc. were invited. 

Prof. ZHANG Suojiang, chairman of the meeting, Member of CAS and Director General of IPE, introduced the work of CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Green Technology (CEGT) and achievements in S&T cooperation. 

The meeting witnessed the MOU signing ceremony of International Joint Bio-mineral Laboratory, China-Egypt Centre of Green Technology, and Bio-material Joint Research Lab, etc. 

Domestic and foreign experts also made plenary and invited lectures. Topics like "surface molecular engineering for functional nanostructure fabrication", "catalytic conversion of biomass and CO₂ into value-added chemicals" have attracted wide discussion among lecturers and listeners. 

In addition, the attendees visited facilities like coal pyrolysis pilot plant and ionic liquid desulfurizing device in Langfang Branch of IPE.
