On January 23, 2022, China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (CPJRC) and Karakoram International University (KIU) jointly held a video conference to sign a memorandum of understanding on issues such as setting up field stations in northern Pakistan and carry out bilateral cooperation and exchanges.

The two parties will facilitate further cooperation and exchanges under the MoU, covering issues such as setting up field monitoring stations in Gilgit, Hunza and other places in northern Pakistan, carrying out project research jointly, and promoting academic and personnel exchanges.

CAS academician CUI Peng and KIU president Atta Ullah Shah delivered speeches and reviewed the history of cooperation between the two parties. They emphasized the necessity and importance of cooperation in view of the special geological structure and frequent disasters in the northern mountainous areas of Pakistan, and expressed their expectations for further cooperation in the future.
