2022-11-20

The 2022 International Training Workshop on Clean Energy Technologies and Applications in the Belt and Road Countries and Regions, concluded on November 18th.

The workshop was sponsored by the CAS’s Bureau of International Cooperation and held by Energy Strategy Research Center, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The 12-day training sessions aimed to share new scientific and technological achievements related to clean energy with countries along the “Belt and Road”, and to work together on technology development to address common challenges in energy, environment, climate, life health, and food security, among others. The workshop sessions were held both online and offline, attracting 36 participants from 11 countries and regions, such as Pakistan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Nigeria, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sudan, Iraq, Togo, Egypt, and Malaysia.

Courses were set up based on Integrated Multi-Energy System, including coefficient and clean utilization of fossil energy, new energy, energy storage, carbon reduction in industrial processes, carbon storage, carbon sink in ecosystems, and energy policies. Different formats were selected, such as special lectures and interactive exchanges, to maximize efficiency.

The attendees reported benefiting a lot from the workshop. A trainee from Yemen said he would apply what he learned about carbon capture, recycling, and utilization towards the construction of his homeland. Pakistani participants reviewed the workshop via video and expressed their hope of gaining a deeper understanding of efficient energy storage, to eventually apply this technology to their own country’s production and life. A trainee from Egypt said that he gained a new understanding of the energy consumption system and carbon emissions. In addition, news media from The Burkina Faso also reported on the workshop.
