Ethanol dehydration is the key technology to produce bio-fuel ethanol. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics has made a breakthrough in the microwave synthesis of zeolite membranes. The as-synthesized zeolite membranes show high performance in the separation of water/ethanol mixtures, with the separation factor over 10,000 and the flux of 3~8kg/(m2. h). The water content in the retentate is below 0.4%, while no ethanol is detected in the permeate. The process features simple operation, no pollution and low energy consumption, probably saving 30~50% compared with pressure swing adsorption (PSA) method. The demonstration plant for the dehydration of fuel ethanol has been set up with the throughput of 300t/a recently. We are capable of design and build plant with the throughput more than 10,000t/a.
