The first of the Fengyun-Ⅲ series meteorological satellites was launched smoothly in Taiyuan Satellite Launching Center on May 27th, 2008. The Satellite carried several payloads developed by the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics(SITP), including earth sensor, VIRR, MERSI, IRAS, ERM. On December 23rd, the sixth of the Fengyun-Ⅱ Series was successfully launched in Xichang Satellite Launching Center. The core payload of the satellite, the Multi- Channel Scan Radiometer (MCSR), was developed by SITP. MCSR covers visible, infrared and water vapor three wavebands. The images and data obtained by the Fengyun-Ⅱ satellites played an important role in nationwide and worldwide weather forecasts. The Fengyun series satellites which came into use after two successful launches in 1997 and 2000 have made China the third country after the United States and France who possesses of such advanced earth-observing technologies. |
