A review meeting, organized by China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) Project Management, was held at IHEP to appraise the Penning surface plasma H-ion source test stand on May 27th, one of the

Phase II R&D projects of CSNS. Experts from Peking University, China Institute of Atomic Energy and Institute of High Energy Physics attended this meeting.

A report on the ion source was given by Prof. Ouyang Huafu on behalf of the project group, and then followed by a visit to the ion source lab by the experts who appraised the experimental results on site.

The expert panel concluded that it was the first Penning surface plasma H- ion source test in China, the main technical specifications of the source were reached and the acceptance conditions were satisfied. H- ion source, as the start of CSNS accelerator complex whose beam with a high quality and stability was a precondition for its final success. A 48-hour test run and an 8-hour stable operation without trouble prove it a success so far.

Only after more than two years' hard work, could the project group finally master the key technologies of H-ion source and finish the construction of its test stand. Let's congratulate on the success!
