Chinese State Councilor Meets CAS Visiting Professors and Young Fellows

About 60 visiting senior international scientists and young international scientists from 19 countries met and shared their recent research progress with 35 Chinese scientists on a forum held in the Olympic Science Park, the Chinese Academy of Sciences on April 26. 

Chinese State Councilor, Madame LIU Yandong met with the foreign scientists during the forum and spoke highly of the CAS Visiting Professorships and Young Fellowship Programs. “China attaches great importance to international science cooperation and exchange” and “will continue to create a favorable living and working environment for foreign scientists,” noted LIU.

CAS President, Prof. LU Yongxiang made an address at the forum. He asserted that countries around the globe are confronted with common major issues and challenges, a fact that requires further beyond-border scientific collaborations. “We sincerely welcome overseas scientists to participate in our cooperative fellowships and programs to join our endeavor in working out common issues faced upon us,” said President LU. 

The attendees of the forum are representatives of 159 awardees of the newly launched “CAS Visiting Professorships for Senior International Scientists” and 55 recipients of the “CAS Fellowships for Young International Scientists”.

Established in 2009 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the “CAS Visiting Professorships for Senior International Scientists” and the “CAS Fellowships for Young International Scientists” aim to recruit foreign scientists who are willing to work with Chinese scientists and for the development of science and technology in China, thus enhance science and technology innovation capacity of CAS scientists.

Five visiting professors and four young scientists delivered reports on their recent research progress at the forum, and sessions on different research areas were also held. After the forum, they also paid a visit to some CAS institutes.

Most of the foreign scientists acclaimed the two programs in high terms. They considered the CAS programs were launched in a timely, standard manner. It will foster the cooperation between Chinese researchers and the foreign scientists, and it is an effective way to enhance China’s internationalization in science and technology. They also expressed their gratitude for the CAS for providing them the opportunity to deepen their collaboration with their Chinese partners.
