The 17th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV17) was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 18 to 22 July, 2010. During the congress, International Institute of Acoustics & Vibration (IIAV) conferred the Honorary Fellow of the Institute on TIAN Jing, president of the Acoustical Society of China and professor of Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS).
The honour was in recognition of TIAN' outstanding contributions to scientific knowledge in acoustics, noise and vibration. As a long-time researcher on electro-acoustics and noise control, Prof. TIAN Jing obtained great achievements in following areas, such as active noise and vibration control, electronic anti-noise communication devices, audio characteristic signal control, transmission and evaluation of traffic noise and applications of finite amplitude sound wave. He has published a total of more than 130 academic papers and owned 7 state patents.
More information about IIAV:
IIAV is a society affiliated to International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The purpose of the IIAV is to advance the science of acoustics and vibration by creating an international scientific society that is responsive to the needs of scientists and engineers in all countries whose primary interests are in the fields of acoustics and vibration. The Institute cooperates with scientific societies in all countries and with other international organizations with the aim of increasing information exchange by sponsoring, cosponsoring or supporting seminars, workshops, congresses and publishing journals, newsletters and other publications. Each year, IIAV will select at most one new Honorary Fellow through strict review. So far only 11 acoustic experts, like Leo L. Beranek, Per V. Bruel, Maa Dayou et al. are the honorary fellows of the Institute.
