Symposium on Coastal Zone Research 2010–Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Yantai on June 17-19, 2010. The Symposium was sponsored by the Bureau of Personnel and Education –Chinese Academy of Sciences and co-organized by Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research-Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The symposium aimed to provide a communication platform for coastal zone ecological environment research, coastal zone biological resources research and environmental pollution process research. It was to promote international cooperation, to enhance the coastal zone research level of China, and to promote academic exchanges between China and advanced countries. The director of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Prof. Dr. SHI Ping, introduced Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research and the eidos of coastal zone research.

More than 100 experts and scholars from US, Australia, and Canada participated in the symposium. Prof. JIANG Guibin (Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences) , Prof. JIAO Jiujiu from Hong Kong University, and Dr. WANG Chunzai  (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-USA) delivered keynote speeches .
