The Workshop on FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) Physics was held jointly by the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP) and Peking University from Feb. 21 to 23 in Beijing.
Prof. Boris Sharkov, the scientific director of FAIR and Prof. Horst Stöcker, the scientific director of GSI (Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung), talked about the status of FAIR project and the overview of FAIR physics respectively. Prof. ZHAN Wenlong, Vice Presidents of CAS gave a lecture on Large Scale Facilities under construction and operation by CAS and proposals of further development. Mr. XIE Ming, vice director of IMP gave a presentation focusing on the progresses of China’s involvement in FAIR so far and possibilities of further participation.
Group discussions on atomic physics and high energy density physics, NuSTAR related physics, nuclear matter physics, and hadron physics were undertaken at the workshop focusing on the approaches for China’s participation in FAIR physics and technologies. It has been agreed that the whitepaper of China’s participation in FAIR physics should be prepared.
