FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research)  scientific director, Prof. Boris Sharkov, visited the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMP, CAS) on Feb. 24.

Prof. Sharkov paid his first visit to IMP after attending the Workshop on FAIR Physics held in Beijing from Feb. 21 to 23. During his visit, the director of IMP, Prof. XIAO Guoqing presented a brief introduction of IMP. Prof. Sharkov had discussions and idea exchanges on the subjects of mutual interest, especially on China’a Participation in FAIR, with directors and scientists of IMP.

Prof. Boris Sharkov was one of the directors at the Russian Alikhanov Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP-Moscow) for several years.Prof. Sharkov has been selected to be the scientific director of the future Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). He became the new leader of the FAIR Joint Core Team at GSI on 1 September 2009. Prof. Sharkov has made significant contributions to the researches in the fields of experimental nuclear physics, accelerator physics, plasma physics, and heavy ion fusion.

The visit of the FAIR scientific director will push forward the cooperation between FAIR and IMP.
