Dr. Barry Bochner along with six Biolog members visited Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB) on January 19th, 2010.Dr. Bochner was the chairman, chief executive officer and chief security officer of Biolog Inc. Scientists and students from TIB gave the visitors a warm welcome.

Dr. Bochner made a speech on applications of Phenotype MicroArray (PM) technique in microbialcells analysis. He said PM technique was a powerful assay platform that allowsphenotypingto be performed in a simple, rapid, cost-effective, and comprehensive manner.

Dr. Bochner described the characteristics of this technique in his speech, and gave a few examples to illustrate the application of PM technique in the following three aspects, (i) Bioprocess improvement, (ii) Culture medium improvement, (iii) Strain or cell line improvement. He pointed out that PM technique was also a fundamental tool for QC and bioprocess development besides research. Participants exchanged ideas after the speech.
