A delegation led by Academician Kuzmin Mikhail, president of the Irkutsk Science Center, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), visited the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS) on January 14th, 2010. Experts of IGSNRR conducted a seminar in sustainable development and academic exchanges with the delegation.
The Irkutsk Science Center delegation conducted in-depth exchanges mainly in the international collaborative research on the integrated scientific expedition in north China and its neighboring area, the State Basic Science and Technology Key Project of China. Academician Kuzmin gave a presentation on “climate Change in Post-Baikal Region and the Lena River Basin”. Academician SUN Jiulin of Chinese Academy of Engineering, the deputy chairman of the Expert Committee of the State Basic Science and Technology Key Project of China participated the seminar and took a speech about Russia and China scientific collaboration in Northeast Asia and admired Academician Kuzmin’s contribution in scientific cooperation between Russia and China.
Professor ZHOU Chenghu, the deputy director of IGSNRR, on behalf of the institute, expressed thanks to the Irkutsk Science Center for their support to the integrated scientific expedition in north China and its neighboring area. He said there was a long history and good cooperation base between the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS and the related institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and hoped that the Irkutsk Science Center and related research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences have further collaborative research with IGSNRR in global climate change, geography, and space exploration, based on the ongoing State Basic Science and Technology Key Project of China.
Professor DONG Suocheng, the leading scientist of the “Integrated Scientific Expedition in North China and its Neighboring Area”, the State Basic Science and Technology Key Project, made a presentation about the progress and international cooperation achievements in the “Integrated Scientific Expedition and Research in North China and its Neighboring Areas”. Academician Kuzmin believes that the Joint Scientific Expedition, attended by China, Russia, Mongolia, has great innovative and scientific significance. He declared that the Irkutsk Science Center would continue to give support in related fields and hope more in-depth cooperation between Russian and Chinese scientists. The two sides exchanged ideas of further cooperation and achieved collaborative intentions.
