China's New Polar Icebreaker to Launch in 2013 [ 24.06.11 ]
China will launch a new icebreaker for use during an upcoming 2013 polar expedition, a senior oceanic official said on Tuesday. Both the new icebreaker and Xuelong ("Snow Dragon"), an icebreaker that operated in Antarctica, will form an Arctic-Antarctic maritime research team.
 
China Successfully Launches New Communication Satellite [ 21.06.11 ]
China successfully launched a new communication satellite, the Zhongxing-10, from its Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Sichuan Province on early Tuesday. The satellite, carried by a Long March-3B rocket carrier, blasted off from the center at 0:13 a.m., said a statement from the center.

UNESCO Sets up Training Center on Ocean Dynamics in East China [ 14.06.11 ]
UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Thursday established a training and research center on Ocean Dynamics and Climate (ODC) in Qingdao, a coastal city in east Shandong Province. Hosted by SOA's First Institute of Oceanography, the center will take 15 to 20 trainees each year in the coming four years.
 
Stricter Measures Taken to Ensure Fairness for China's Top Science Award [ 13.06.11 ]
China has taken stricter measures to make sure that the ongoing selection of national science and technology award recipients is conducted in a "clean and fair" way. Zou Dating, director of the National Office for Science & Technology Awards, said on Saturday that one of the office's priorities is to prevent the names of the judges sitting on the national award evaluation board from leaking.
