CAS held a symposium on 3 November in Beijing to make its newly-recruited young leading scientists familiar with the actualities of the country and the academy. It was attended by some 120 winners of prestigious Bairen (or 100 talents) Program of CAS from about 50 research institutes.

CAS President LU Yongxiang was present at the meeting and gave a talk. In the speech, he made an analysis on various topics, ranging from the world modernization evolution and its developing trends, the significant contributions of science and technology to social development, and the challenges and opportunities facing the country at the moment. He also briefed the rising science stars on the strategic positions of CAS in the national innovation system, and raised an ardent expectation for them.

With an objective of establishing a highly innovative research contingent, CAS launched the Bairen Program in 1994. Over the past 14 years, more than 1,000 overseas experts joined the Academy through the program.
