
With support of the Provincial Government of Heilongjiang, a CAS center for molecular breeding of Japonica rice in Northern China was inaugurated recently in Harbin, capital of the province. CAS Vice President LI Jiayang and Vice Governor of Heilongjiang SUN Rao ink a framework protocol for its co-establishment.

With support of the Provincial Government of Heilongjiang, a CAS center for molecular breeding of Japonica rice in Northern China was inaugurated recently in Harbin, capital of the province.
Its nameplate unveiling ceremony was attended by leaders and experts of the two sides, including CAS Vice President LI Jiayang and vice governors of Heilongjiang, DU Jiahao and SUN Rao.
On the occasion, Prof. Li and Mr. Sun also inked a framework protocol for the center's co-establishment. According to the agreement, the center, an unincorporate entity, will be under the direction of a council board composed of experts and officials from CAS and the local government.
Coordinated by the Institute for Genetics and Developmental Biology of CAS and the Academy of Agriculture of Heilongjiang, financial and research resources from the two sides will be pooled to conduct studies on such areas as mechanisms of plant disease resistance, farming product quality upgrading, cultivation of low-temperature tolerant cultivars, simple cultivation, and sustainable utilization of the water resources |
