| CASAD holds meeting on consultative projects |

On 8 September, the second session of the fourth Committee for Consultation and Evaluation under the CAS Academic Divisions (CASAD) was convened in Beijing.
Chaired by Prof. ZHU Daoben, director of the Committee, the meeting was attended by members of the Committee and other CAS Members and experts.
The participants examined the reports of 15 research projects recently completed by CASAD, including strategic studies on the ecological development and sustainable development in Xinjiang; addressing environmental crisis so as to ensure the people's health and survival; the current state of bio-invasion and countermeasures; a suggestion on giving priority to development of several all-solid laser technologies, a suggestion on the studies of bearing capacity of civil and military works to the blasting load effects.
The conference also held discussions on proposals for six new consultant projects, including "reasons behind the changes in energy consumption intensity in China and energy-saving policies," "the possibilities of agrobiological terrorism and its prevention strategies." In addition, deliberations were conducted on a project entitled "suggestions on the development of state laboratories." |
