An Efficient Method for Solving Sound Propagation in Range-Dependent Ocean Wa... [ 12.04.12 ]
Researchers developed an accurate, efficient, and numerically stable coupled normal mode method to solve the range-dependent propagation problem. Their work, entitled "A numerically stable coupled-mode formulation for acoustic propagation in range-dependent waveguides", was published in SCIENCE CHINA Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy. 2012, Vol. 55(4).

New Finding Extends the Range of Anatomically Modern Coelacanths to the Early... [ 11.04.12 ]
In a study published April10 in the journal of Nature Communications, Dr. ZHU Min, Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his collaborators reported the earliest known coelacanth skull from the Early Devonian of Yunnan, China, which represents the first record of an anatomically modern coelacanth before the late Middle Devonian.

Scientists Find Magnetic Reconnection in Venusian magnetotail [ 10.04.12 ]
Scientists from China, the United States and Austria have jointly found the magnetic reconnection in the near-Venus magnetotail. The findings, issued in the latest Science Magazine released on Friday, are likely to promote research into climate change on Venus and help find solutions to similar problems on Earth, said Professor Zhang Tielong, the team leader with University of Science and Techn...

Newly Discovered Close Relative of T. Rex Is Largest Known Feathered... [ 05.04.12 ]
Palaeontologists have known for more than a decade that some small dinosaurs had bird-like feathers, mainly thanks to beautifully preserved fossils from northeastern China. Now three specimens of a new tyrannosauroid from the same region show that at least one much larger dinosaur had a feathery coat as well.

Is Rainfall a Greater Threat to China's Agriculture Than Warming? [ 05.04.12 ]
New research into the impact of climate change on Chinese cereal crops has found rainfall has a greater impact than rising temperature. The research, published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture found that while maize is sensitive to warming increases in temperature from 1980 onwards correlated with both higher and lower yields of rice and wheat.

Chinese Chemist Wins International Award [ 30.03.12 ]
Chemist Zhang Lina became the first Chinese scientist to win the Anselme Payen Award, a prestigious chemistry award, for her contributions to the science and chemical technology of cellulose and its allied products. Zhang, also an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the first Chinese scientist to win the annual award since it was established in 1962.
