LU Yongxiang, the President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), met with the President of Max Planck Society (MPG) Peter Gruss on February 7, 2010 in Beijing.
Dr. LU briefed Dr. Peter Gruss about the latest news on the construction of CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology firstly. He briefed that the recruitment of new director of the institute was underway. So far the institute had received 10 applications from China, Italy, Russia, Germany, Canada and U.S.A.
LU also talked about developments of CAS’ newly-built institutes. The new institutes played an important role not only in conducting fundamental, strategic and prospective study, but also benefited the regional technological innovation system and socio-economic development, noted LU.
Dr. Gruss said he was pleased to see the progress CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology made in the past 5 years, and he hope the institute would attract more great talents to work in China. He also provided information about the new institutes MPG built.
The two parties exchanged ideas on Exploratory Round Table(s) and the Berlin 8 Open Access Conference which will be held in Beijing.
Dr. Gruss and his colleagues also visited Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics, Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences and the CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology.
Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, Dr. LV Yonglong, and the director of the president’s office of MPG, Sabine Zimmermann also attended the meeting.
